As a California native, hip-hop dogg father Snoop Dogg felt is was necessary to put together a special documentary titled “Uprising” that revisited a crazy time period in L.A. The L.A riots, which is also known as the Rodney King Riots took pace between the dates of April 29th until May1st. After being brutally beaten and attacked by 5 police officers. The riots began the day all 5 police officers pleaded not guilty and were set free.
20 years later, Snoop Dogg revisits that time with a documentary tying both the riot and hip-hop together. The documentary has commentary from variety of people, such as rappers, victims, police officers, journalists, rioters, and other citizens. In addition to reminsicing on the riot, the film tracks the rise of Los Angeles in the 80s and 90s and even speaks to ciitizen on violence and abuse in L.A
The documentary is a VH1: Roc Dock’s special premiering tonight at 9 pm. Check out the preview below:
